Meet Ampeire Samuel: The Ugandan Entrepreneur Building Digital Solutions for Everyday Problems

Featured Visual • Etomu News

Ampeire Samuel is a Ugandan entrepreneur and technology enthusiast from Rukiga District who is building digital products aimed at solving practical problems faced by people and businesses.

He is the founder of Etomu Holdings, a growing digital venture behind projects including Etomu Tasks, Etomu News, and Etomu Research.

But the journey did not begin with Etomu.

It began with a university student who had a problem of his own.

From Rukiga to Kabale University

Samuel was born in Rukiga District, Uganda, where he began his education at Aunt Jolly Primary School.

He later attended St. Maria Goretti Senior Secondary School to Nyabikoni Secondary School before joining Kabale University, where he pursued a Bachelor of Procurement and Logistics Management.

His university experience played an important role in shaping his entrepreneurial thinking.

During his first year, first semester, Samuel reported to university with limited financial resources but many requirements to meet.

Like many students, he needed items for university life, including things that could be expensive when purchased new.

This experience led to a simple but powerful question:

«What if there was a trusted place where students could buy second-hand hostel items from fellow students and people around Kabale?»

That question became the beginning of Kabale Online.

The Beginning: Kabale Online

Kabale Online was Samuel's first major digital marketplace project.

"Kabale Online" (https://www.kabaleonline.com?utm_source=chatgpt.com)

The idea was to create a local online marketplace where people in Kabale could discover products being sold by local sellers and students.

Instead of allowing useful items to sit unused after a student leaves a hostel or completes university, the platform could help connect those items with someone who needs them.

What started from a personal university challenge became an opportunity to explore a much bigger idea:

How can technology make local buying and selling easier and more accessible?

Building Kabale Online also exposed Samuel to the realities of creating a digital business in a local market—trust, payments, delivery, sellers, customers, technology, and the challenge of getting people to use a new platform.

Those lessons would later influence his next major venture.

From Selling Products to Getting Things Done

While building and experimenting with digital products, Samuel noticed another everyday problem.

In Uganda, finding someone to reliably complete a service when you need it can still be surprisingly difficult.

A person may need a plumber, electrician, computer technician, designer, painter, repairer, delivery person, or someone to help with a task, but finding the right person often depends on asking friends, calling several contacts, posting in WhatsApp groups, or waiting for a recommendation.

Even when someone is eventually found, they may not be available when needed, may not have the right skills, or may not provide enough information for the customer to confidently make a decision.

This can turn a simple problem into a frustrating delay.

Samuel saw an opportunity to approach the problem differently.

What if finding someone to get a task done could be as simple as searching for the service you need?

That idea became Etomu Tasks.

Building the TaskRabbit of Uganda

Samuel's ambition for Etomu Tasks is straightforward:

To build a TaskRabbit-style marketplace for Uganda.

The goal is to create a platform where people who need services can connect with people who have the skills to provide them.

A customer could need a leaking pipe fixed, a computer repaired, furniture worked on, a house painted, goods delivered, something designed, or assistance with a task.

Instead of relying entirely on personal connections, the customer can use a digital marketplace to discover suitable service providers.

Service providers, on the other hand, can use the platform to showcase their skills and reach customers who need what they offer.

The vision is to bring both sides of the market together.

For customers, Etomu aims to make it easier to:

  • Find service providers for everyday needs.
  • Discover providers based on the services they offer.
  • See relevant information before choosing who to hire.
  • Find people who may be available when the service is needed.
  • Communicate about the task and agree on what needs to be done.
  • Make transactions more organized.
  • Build confidence through provider verification and customer reviews.

For service providers, Etomu aims to help them:

  • Create an online presence without needing to build their own website.
  • Showcase their skills and services.
  • Reach customers beyond their immediate personal network.
  • Indicate where they operate and when they are available.
  • Build a reputation through successful jobs and reviews.
  • Turn their skills into more opportunities.

For Samuel, the bigger problem is not simply finding a person.

It is creating a trusted and organized system for getting things done.

Why Trust Is at the Center

Trust is one of the biggest challenges in local services.

When you hire someone you have never met before, you are trusting them with your money, your property, your business, your time, or sometimes something important to your personal life.

Etomu's vision therefore goes beyond simply displaying phone numbers.

The platform is being designed around ideas such as provider profiles, verification, availability, reviews, communication, and safer payments.

The objective is to gradually create an environment where good service providers can build a reputation and customers can make better-informed decisions.

Beyond Etomu Tasks

Etomu Holdings is not limited to the services marketplace.

Samuel is also building other digital projects under the Etomu ecosystem, including Etomu News and Etomu Research.

These projects reflect his broader interest in using technology to organize information, connect people, and create useful digital services.

The common thread is not simply technology.

It is solving problems.

Building Through Real Projects

Along the way, Samuel has also worked on a number of software projects for different needs, including fees management systems, production systems, reporting systems, business websites, and other digital solutions.

These experiences have helped him understand that building software is only one part of solving a problem.

A useful product must also be understandable, affordable, reliable, and designed around the people who will actually use it.

This philosophy continues to influence how he approaches new projects.

A Vision Beyond One Website

Samuel's ambition is bigger than creating individual websites.

Through Etomu Holdings, he wants to build a collection of practical technology products that address real needs and create opportunities.

For Etomu Tasks specifically, the long-term ambition is to make it easier for Ugandans to move from:

“I need something done, but I don't know who to call.”

to:

“I need this done. Let me find someone who can do it.”

That change may sound simple, but it can have a meaningful impact.

A customer can save time.

A service provider can find a new customer.

A skilled young person can get an opportunity.

A small business can find the help it needs.

And a local service provider can gradually build a reputation based on the quality of their work rather than simply who they know.

From a University Problem to a Bigger Mission

The journey from Kabale Online to Etomu Holdings represents a larger lesson in Samuel's approach to entrepreneurship.

A problem does not always have to begin as a huge business idea.

Sometimes it starts with a simple question.

“What if there was a better way?”

For Samuel, that question first led to Kabale Online after experiencing the financial pressures of university life.

Today, it has evolved into a broader ambition to build technology that helps people buy, sell, find services, access information, and get things done more efficiently.

His journey is still developing, but the mission remains consistent:

«Identify real problems, build practical solutions, learn from users, and keep improving.»
